Gregory van der Struik is currently Principal Trombone with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra and a part time member of the brass faculty at the Sydney Conservatorium from 1993 - 2004. In 1990 he initiated The Trombonis Australis Project to develop a substantial contribution to trombone repertoire through close collaboration with composers and other performers.

The Project’s aims are to promote Australian music for brass, in particular trombone by presenting works in performance, recording and score format along with providing analyses of the repertoire for educational and research purposes.

The project has resulted in over 40 new compositions for brass. Greg’s commitment to the presentation of new works both in Australia and internationally has made him a leading advocate for the presentation of contemporary Australian brass repertoire.
